Automatic Data Collection (ADC) Laboratory:

The University of Pittsburgh Automatic Data Collection (ADC) Laboratory is an NSF (NSF Grant 9250463) and AIMUSA (the ADC industry trade organization headed in Pittsburgh, Pa) funded facility designed for teaching and research in advanced ADC technologies. The ADC laboratory is a 1,600 ft2 facility residing on the main campus of the University of Pittsburgh.
The facility supports courses and research for both the School of Engineering and the School of Information Sciences. The laboratory houses over $400,000 in ADC hardware and software connected through an integrated network of 8 Pentium computers. The laboratory contains capabilities in the following ADC technologies: RFDC, RFID, bar codes, biometrics, and magnetic stripe. In addition, the laboratory contains over $100,000 in automated testing equipment in support of its ADC product conformance evaluation mission.
