Undergraduate MEMS 1085Departmental Seminar(0 units) Description: Seminars are designed to acquaint students with aspects of engineering not normally encountered in classes and include a wide range of topics, such as the significance of engineering as a profession and the relationship of engineering to current social problems. Prerequisites: None Textbook: None Course Objective: The primary objective of this course is to establish an understanding of professional and ethical issues. A secondary objective maintained though this course is the enhancement of communication among students, the departmental faculty, and practicing professionals. Topics Covered: Professional ethics, professional registration, humanities and social sciences, graduate school opportunities, placement, interviewing skills and issues, occupational safety, engineering liabilities and patent law, and communications Class/Laboratory Schedule: One 50-minute period of seminar per week.
