Professional Interests

Dr. Fulay's principal research and teaching interests lie in the area of science of chemical synthesis and processing of smart materials and structures. He is also interested in properties of ferroelectric, magnetic, and microwave dielectric ceramic materials in relation to their microstructure. He has approximately sixty (60) publications in reputed journals and conference proceedings. He has three US issued patents and has edited one book. He is the co-author on the Fourth Edition of two textbooks, "The Science and Engineering of Materials" and "Essentials of Materials Science and Engineering". Dr. Phulé has regularly presented his research results at national and international meetings. His research program at the University of Pittsburgh has received funding through grants from the National Science Foundation (NSF), Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR), Petroleum Research Fund (ACS-PRF), Alcoa Foundation, Ford Foundation, and International Society for Hybrid Microelectronics.

Dr. Fulay is a Fellow of the American Ceramic Society (ACerS). He is a member of the Society of Rheology, the Materials Research Society (MRS), and the American Chemical Society (ACS). He is also a member of the ASEE, AAAS, and ISHM. He has served as an Associate Editor of the Journal of American Ceramic Society. He was the lead Guest Editor of the MRS Bulletin Special issue on the Materials Science of Field Responsive Fluids. He has served as the secretary and vice-president of the Greater Pittsburgh Chapter of the MRS, of which he is a founder member, and the education committee of the electronics division of the ACerS. Dr. Phulé has served on organizational, advisory, or program committees for several conferences and symposia.
