About Us News2003Blachère presented with Albert Victor Bleininger Memorial AwardJean Blachère, associate professor emeritus, was honored as a leader in the ceramics field by the Pittsburgh section of the American Ceramic Society (ACS). Blachère will be presented with the 55th annual Albert Victor Bleininger Memorial Award Oct. 24 at the University Club, 123 University Place, Oakland. Distinguished MSE AlumniDistinguished MSE Alumni Awarded: School of Engineering: Jack W. Shilling, MSE PhD'75; Executive Vice President, Strategic Initiatives and Technology and Chief Technology Officer, Allegheny Technologies. Materials Science and Engineering: Eric J. Palmiere, MS'87, PhD'91. Smolinski named Chair of the Committee on Computational Mechanics of ASMEIn serving the professional society, Patrick Smolinski, associate professor, was named Chair of the Committee on Computational Mechanics of the Applied Mechanics Division of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). He will serve in this position for a two year term beginning August 2003. Jeff Vipperman, assistant professor, was installed as Chair of the Pittsburgh Section of ASME this past July. Dr. Vipperman has also been elected to chair a technical committee to revise American National Standard ANSI S1.1 in acoustics. He also gave an invited speech at a NIOSH/NHCA workshop entitled: Impulsive Noise: A NORA Hearing Loss Team Best Practice. |
