Materials Science and Engineering Minor

The Department of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science offers the following minor to students in the School of Engineering who are not currently majoring in Materials Scence and Engineering. The minor consists of five (5) courses for a total of fifteen (15) units. Students must obtain a GPA of at least 2.0 for the courses taken.

  • ENGR 0022: Materials Structure and Properties (3 units)
        Pre-req: MATH 0230 and PHYS 0175
  • MEMS 0040: Materials and Manufacturing (3 units)
        Pre-req: ENGR 0022
  • MEMS 1056: Energetics (3 units)
        Pre-req: ENGR 0022 and MEMS 0051
  • MEMS 1064: Materials Science 2 (3 units)
        Pre-req: MEMS 1054 and MEMS 1056

In addition, one (1) of the following electives must be selected.

  • MEMS 1058: Electromagnetic Properties of Materials (3 units)
        Pre-req: ENGR 0022
  • MEMS 1070: Mechanical Behavior of Materials (3 units)
        Pre-req: ENGR 0022 and ENGR 0145 or ENGR 0141
  • MEMS 1163: Ceramic Materials (3 units)
        Pre-req: MEMS 1064
  • MEMS 1172: Physical Metallurgy (3 units)
        Pre-req: MEMS 1054     Co-req: MEMS 1064

Admissions

Undergraduate students are admitted to the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science through the School of Engineering Admissions Office.
