The MAC acquires a linear motor drive Sinker Electric Discharge Machine

The MAC has recently added to its electric discharge machining capabilities by acquiring a Sodick AQ35L Sinker EDM in cooperation with Sodick Inc. This machine features a highly responsive linear servo system that provides the optimum discharge gap at all times and greatly improves the discharge frequency. Aided by its unique linear motor drive, this machine is capable of minimum increments of 0.1 microns. It is also designed to minimize noise and vibration, giving it stability under all conditions. The linear servo motors reduce EDM machining time by as much as 50 percent. Backlash is eliminated because there are no ball screws or couplings.

A new head design connects the motor and rotary axis directly to increase the spindle rigidity and indexing resolution. The spindle also maintains a stable rotation speed. The AQ35L can be used in all types of applications including line hole machining.

The linear motor's high speed jump capability enables the machine to discharge machining chips without flushing. A ceramic slider minimizes thermal distortion and insures high rigidity. The three-axis linear motor with its high speed and precise servo system gives the AQ35L efficient orbit machining from rough to finish by controlling three axes simultaneously.

The AQ35L's menu-driven control automatically writes the NC code for the operator, while inserting the optimum cutting conditions. Sodick linear servo motors for CNC die-sinkers can reduce EDM machining time as high as 50 percent. Since there are no ball screws or couplings, backlash is totally eliminated. The menu-driven control automatically writes the NC code for the operator, while inserting the optimum cutting conditions. With Sodick's new LQ Control you can import Parasolid (solid models) files directly into the control. This unique feature maximizes the cutting efficiency, reduces the workflow and reduces programming errors .
