Shared Manufacturing

|
Shared Manufacturing, a concept created by Dr. Bopaya Bidanda and others, is defined as different manufacturers with similar needs sharing modern manufacturing technologies, facilities, equipment, and management systems. Shared manufacturing at the MAC is designed to support applied research, the development of competitive products and world class manufacturing processes. The MAC offers qualified manufacturers a supportive environment, low rate rental space, access to equipment, machine tools and software engineering support. At the MAC, manufacturers can start new manufacturing projects in a secure environment, consult with a network of manufacturing engineers, use the machine tools, verify new processes, conduct trial production runs, develop new production systems using automation and programmable logic controllers. The MAC also demonstrates new equipment, like the Sodick AQ35L Die Sink EDM, to help potential buyers and decision makers make informed purchasing decisions. An example of a successful startup company that utilizes the MAC is Universal Technology Inc. Another start-up company at the MAC is Industrial Laser Systems, LCC
