This informal seminar series provides SSOE faculty with useful information or resources to improve implementation, management, funding or translation of their research programs. Topics will cover a wide variety of areas under this general theme, and suggestions for new topics are more than welcome (and should be sent to the Associate Dean for Research's office at ehv3@pitt.edu).
All lectures will be in Benedum 102 from 12:00 - 1:00 pm. Registration is required for lunch.

Federal Agencies and Research Security: What Pitt Researchers Need to Know
We are pleased to announce that our next SSOE Valuable Opportunities for Research Programs Lunch and Learn session will be on Tuesday, April 9th 2024 at 12pm in 102 BEH.

In this Lunch and Learn session, Mr. Allen A. DiPalma, Director of Research Security and Trade Compliance, will speak about federal research security initiatives that federal agencies are adopting and how Pitt is preparing for them. Included in this discussion will be an overview of two recent Department of Justice cases involving prominent Ivy League faculty researchers and how the outcomes of those cases have shaped current federal research security approaches.
More About the Speaker:
Allen A. DiPalma, MBA, Director of the Office of Research Security & Trade Compliance: In this capacity, he is responsible for the export controls program, academic visitor guidelines, biological imports, drones, and management of Pitt’s developing plan to address federal research security requirements. Prior to being named to lead Pitt’s Office of Research Security & Trade Compliance in 2014, Mr. DiPalma directed Pitt’s sponsored project office for 10 years and also has prior experience working in Pitt’s medical school, financial accounting, and departmental administration. Allen is currently a Board member for the Council on Governmental Relations (COGR), member and past Chair of the Board for the Association of University Export Controls Officials (AUECO), member of the Academic Security and Counter Exploitation Working Group (ASCE), member of the Central Midwest Security Forum, Traveling Export Controls Faculty Member for the National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA), and export controls representative on the AAU/APLU Science and Security Working Group.
