 IE Departmental Accounts

Industrial Engineering provides accounts to students who are are current graduate students or students who require them for class.  Accounts are also open to faculty and staff and are sometimes required to access certain functions of the departmental server system.

Username:  For simplicity the account username will match your CSSD username.  This is done so that technical staff can quickly contact you.  It is also assumed that your CSSD email is being checked or forwarded to an email account that you check with some regularity.

Password:  Your IE Departmental Account may have the same password as your CSSD account if you choose, but it can be different.  The only restriction is that the password must meet the criteria of a complex password.  There can be NO exceptions as the server will physically not accept a password that is not complex enough.

Documentation about accounts and account creation can be found in HTML and DOC (Word) format.

Complex Password Rules

Rule

Bad

Good

1. The new password must be six or more characters long.

dog

dOg8cAt

2. The new password cannot contain any part of your username or real name.  (for example assume John R. Doe)

jrdst1

BiRd8DOG

jrd1

CAT8dog

3.  The new password cannot contain dictionary words or names with no capitalization or standard capitalization.

Gateway

GaTe$WaY

Mary

MaRY@1

4. The new password cannot contain sequences of letters and/or digits.

ABC123

1A23bc

5. The new password cannot only pre-pend or append numbers.

Tiger34

TigER3$4

6. The new password must contain at least three out of the following four characters:

                             ·        Uppercase letters (ABC…).

                             ·        Lowercase letters (abc…).

                             ·        Numbers (123…).

                             ·        Non-alphanumeric symbols (!@#$...).

An example of a good password would be a short phrase that you can remember substituting numbers for words, like on a license plate.  For example, “UrGr8Man” = “You are great man” would satisfy the requirements of a secure password.  Try to think of a phrase that you would remember and that would be hard to guess. Avoid using Social Security Numbers, Birthdates, and closely related names that can be guessed by someone who has a little knowledge of you and access to the internet.
