Faculty Mainak Mazumdar - Professor Emeritus

  • Education: Ph.D. (Applied Statistics and Probability): Cornell University
  • Areas of Expertise: Industrial Statistics, Stochastic Models for Electric Power Industry, Reliability
Mainak Mazumdar

Professor Mazumdar joined the department in 1981. Prior to that, he was a scientist in the Westinghouse R&D Center for 15 years. His present area of research is in the development of stochastic models for the evaluation of reliability and production costs of electric power systems. In collaboration with Prof. J. Rajgopal he has been developing the system-based component test plans for evaluating the reliability of complex systems. This work requires amalgamation of ideas from statistics and probability theory as well as linear and non-linear programming. Prof. Mazumdar's research is currently being funded by the National Science Foundation. He is an Associate Editor of Naval Research Logistics.
