Faculty Harvey Wolfe - Professor Emeritus
Professor Wolfe is a professor of industrial engineering and has been a member of the faculty at the University of Pittsburgh since 1964. He served as the department chair from 1985 to 2000. He received his PhD in operations research from the John Hopkins University, where he also earned a BES in industrial engineering and an MSE in operations research. His primary area of interest is operations research, with particular specialization in health applications and, more recently in Engineering Education systems. Recently, Dr. Wolfe has been working on the development of simulation and control models for the evaluation and on-line control of emergency department operations. He is also working on the development of flow and evaluation models of the Undergraduate Engineering Education Process. He continues to maintain an interest in nurse allocation models where he introduced the concept of utilizing psychometric methods to measure the cost/value component in mathematical programming formulations. Dr. Wolfe has been the principal investigator for more than 25 research grants totaling in excess of four million dollars. He is the author of three books and numerous technical papers. He is a Fellow of IIE, where he served as president of the Society of Health Systems, and is active in INFORMS, where he served as chairman of the Health Applications Section. He has been a consultant to many industrial and governmental agencies, including several Blue Cross plans, the Social Security Administration, and many hospitals and physician groups. He is currently co-editor of the Journal of the Society for Health Systems. |
