Byron S. Gottfried

Professor Gottfried joined the department in 1970. Before that he was a section supervisor in the Economics and Computer Science Division of Gulf Research and Development Company. He is interested in applied simulation modeling, and teaches simulation modeling within the Department.

Dr. Gottfried is also the Academic Director of the School of Engineering Freshman Engineering Program, which involves the planning and delivery of the school-wide freshman engineering courses, Engineering 11 and 12. As a result, he has developed an interest in new educational paradigms, and has spearheaded the use of active learning for computer-intensive courses within the School of Engineering.

Dr. Gottfried is an active participant in the American Society of Engineering Education. He is the author of eleven college textbooks, including several programming texts in the well-known Schaum's Outline Series.
