  • Education: Ph.D. (Industrial and Systems Engineering): Georgia Institute of Technology
  • Areas of Expertise: Operations Research, Integer Programming, Logistics, Stochastic Programming, Medical Optimization
Andrew J. Schaefer

Professor Andrew Schaefer joined the department in 2000 after receiving his PhD in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Georgia Tech. He received his BA in Applied Math and his Masters in Operations Research from Rice University.

Dr. Schaefer's primary research interests include applied and theoretical operations research. He is currently active in stochastic programming, integer programming, combinatorial optimization, airline crew scheduling, logistics, medical applications of OR, and supply chain design. His dissertation work considered airline crew scheduling under uncertainty. He has taught courses in simulation, linear programming and logistics. He is currently active in large-scale stochastic integer programming, airline crew scheduling, the optimal timing of liver transplants, medical logistics, and supply chain design.
