January 2007 Meeting |
WHAT: Design for Six Sigma
The topic of the presentation
is "Design for Six Sigma". The typical Six Sigma effort involves improvement
of an existing process to reduce variation and improve the quality of the
results. However, when an organization is interested in designing and implementing
a new process, the Six Sigma DMAIC approach is less effective. In this
case, Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) methods are applied. This presentation
will cover the basic differences of DFSS from Six Sigma; pros, cons, challenges
and pitfalls in moving from DMAIC to DFSS; use of DFSS for marketing; and
methods used in DFSS. Join us on January 25th as Bill Rushmore presents
information on Design for Six Sigma. Mr. Rushmore teaches and operates
his own company that consults in Six Sigma based improvement, IT systems,
and process development.

and family for an evening of food and fun at a great ballpark. The tailgate
will start at 5:30 pm (exact location T.B.D.). The game is scheduled to
start at 7:05pm (tickets will be passed out at the tailgate until the start

July 2007 Meeting |
WHAT: Habitat for
Humanity
The July program will feature
a visit to the Pittsburgh Habitat for Humanity. Pittsburgh Habitat works
in Allegheny County with people from all walks of life. Through volunteer
labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and rehabilitates
simple, decent houses with the help of future homeowners. Pittsburgh Habitat
gives hope to families who could not otherwise afford to own their own
homes.
Pittsburgh Habitat's mission is the elimination
of substandard housing in Allegheny County. Since 1986, 55 families who
were living in substandard conditions have moved into their own homes.
Their building neighborhoods in Pittsburgh include East Liberty, North
Side, and Hill District; in Allegheny County - Braddock, Duquesne, Etna,
Homestead, McKees Rocks, North Braddock, Rankin, and Wilkinsburg. Pittsburgh
Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with volunteers and low-income
families in need, to build homes, which are then purchased by these families
through no-profit, no-interest mortgages.
Please plan to join us to learn more about
the Pittsburgh Habitat for Humanity and how we as Industrial Engineers
can help make local efforts more successful. Please look for additional
details in the forthcoming evite, to be sent to your address on record
within the next few weeks.
