2006 Formula SAE Competition, 47th out of 125

The Formula SAE competition, sponsored by Daimler-Chrysler, Ford, and General Motors and sanctioned by the Society of Automotive Engineers, gives students the opportunity to design, build, and compete with Formula-style racecars. The yearly competition in Detroit, Michigan, hosts 140 teams from twelve countries. Entries are limited to four stroke engines with a maximum displacement of 610 cc and a 20 mm intake restrictor. Rules are established to maintain safety while encouraging innovative designs.

The University of Pittsburgh has participated in Formula SAE since 1987, boasting a top ten finish in 2000 (9th) and more recently an 18th place finish in 2004. Pitt prides itself on cars that are entirely student designed and primarily student built. Invaluable experience in the fields of engineering, manufacturing, and business management / communications is gained in the process.

Those interested in joining the University of Pittsburgh Panther Racing Formula SAE team can contact John Landreneau or stop by Room SB82, Benedum Hall. The team is currently involved in the design and manufacture process of the 2007 race car, with a goal of completing the car by March 1, 2007.
