-
The hotel is located off campus, but close to the Universities. Sheets and
towels will be replaced everyday in the hotel.
-
Dress code: According to the MCE programs, everyone is required to wear
business casual clothes on the company visits-no exceptions. So please use your
discretion and dress appropriately. For men this means slacks, button-down
shirts, and a tie. A suit or jacket is not needed. Ladies, slacks or skirts are
fine, but nothing too short or revealing. Please be sure that your shoes are
comfortable. We will be doing a good bit of walking, even on the business
visits.
-
Laundry: a laundry service is available near the hotel for a very cheap price.
-
Food: The basic food in Europe and SOuth American is the same as in the United States
-
Please remember to bring tissue/Kleenex and hand sanitizer.
-
Weather in May in South America averages 70 high/60 low. Suggest you check a weather web site to look at the forecast before you travel.
- Money: The best advise is to use your ATM card and/or credit card. Make sure you notify your bank that you are traveling over sees.
- First Aid Kit: Bring one with basic supplies for cuts and headaches, etc.
-
How to pack
-
Two checked bags (max each of 62 inches in overall length), one carry on, one
personal item (purse size)
-
All checked bags are x-rayed (be careful with film)
-
Reality: pack light!
-
One suitcase plus backpack carry on: YOU are lugging this stuff
-
You don't need a different outfit for each company visit!
-
You can bring a computer if you want. Might be handy since the TV is not in
english
-
Electricity
-
The US uses 110 volt 60 cycle current with a US plug
-
Europe, SOuth America and China use 220 volt 50 cycle current. Brazil uses both the standard US two prong plug and Europe two
prong plug
-
You need to Convert the current from 220 to 110
-
Some products (laptops, some hairdryers) have a switch for changing built in,
you switch it or it does it for you. Some need to have a current transformer
(converter) that you buy separately to change 220 to 110.
-
Moral: do you really need to take that electrical thing with you? If the answer
is yes, you need to sort out what you need to do to make it to work where you
are going.
