Project Description

Evaluate the future use of Aliquippa Place housing facilities that best fits the mission of the OPDC. Determine whether to renovate housing facility up to livable conditions, to demolish current housing and build more, new housing facilities, or to sell the property and use the profits to benefit the OPDC’s other programs.

Problem Statement

We will provide OPDC with a cost estimate of the required renovations to the Aliquippa Place Housing Facilities. In order to compile a cost estimate of renovations, we will first take measurements of a housing unit and produce a floor plan of the facility. Then, through an onsite evaluation using a thermographic camera, we will determine whether or not the housing is adequately insulated and address potential sources of energy loss. Using another onsite evaluation, we will analyze the structural integrity of the facility and determine if the buildings are structurally sound or whether signs of defects like settling are present. We will also ensure that a specified percentage of the housing units are compliant with the ADA standards by researching specifications and providing suggestions for possible layouts of units, especially bathrooms. Through our analyses of the site’s conditions, we can accurately evaluate which elements need replacement. Finally, through using measurements and other data from our floor plan, we will compile a pricing estimate for all of the renovations.
