ENGR 0715 - Engineering Applications for Society

Spring 2007 Projects

Engineering Education With Lego Mindstorm

Community Partner: Carnegie Science Center

Team:

Robert Durso, Samantha Horvath, Berkely Williams, Alexander Keylin

Problem Statement:

This project was focused around promoting the University of Pittsburgh School of Engineering and the engineering profession to middle and high/school aged students using the Lego Mindstorms Robots as demonstrations. The project was split into two different components. The first was to create an interactive presentation for the University to display at the “Engineer the Future” weekend at the Carnegie Science Center. This consisted of two independent robots, one that followed a given path and a second that could navigate an obstacle course. The second part of the project was to create an educational video to help local student teams create their own robots to compete in various competitions. Throughout this, we hoped to promote engineering to younger members of the local communities.
