Analysis of Wet Weather Events In Schenley Park Watershed

Community Partner: Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy

Team:

Michael Mouser, Paul Shin, David Gaffnew

Problem Statement:

The primary purpose of our project was to determine short term effects of wet weather events on Panther Hollow Run, located in the Schenley watershed. Our goal was to produce and provide the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy with a hydrograph, a visual representation of the flow rate as a function of time, and a cross sectional diagram of the stream at various locations, specified by the client. The rationale for this data is to aid in the preservation of historical trails and bridges along the stream in Schenley Park. To produce the hydrograph we set up various monitoring stations to determine volume of rain fall, stream flow velocity, and height of the stream. Furthermore the number of wet weather events directly affected the quality and accuracy of the collected data and subsequent hydrograph.
