Online Accessibility Map
Community Partner: University of Pittsburgh Disability Resources and Services (DRS)
Community Contact: Lynnett van Slyke, director
Project Description: This team will augment the current online accessibility map to include all campus buildings, while working with DRS and campus community members to determine how to make the map more comprehensive and more user-friendly.
Problem Statement
This team will work with the University’s Disability Resources and Services department (DRS), with feedback from other campus community members, to determine how to make their current online accessibility map for the University more comprehensive and user-friendly. In the process, the team will augment the online accessibility map to include all University-owned campus buildings, including residence halls and athletic facilities, while revamping the "feel" of the site to make it more consistent with the rest of the DRS website. This will make it easier for handicapped University faculty, staff, students, prospective students, and visitors to access information on the locations of accessible entrances, and ways of getting to them.
The team will also review, update, and add to a database containing numerous measurements of the handicap-accessible entrances of each building, ensuring that each is in compliance with the requirements set forth in the Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines (ADAAG). These measurements will be forwarded to University officials who, if necessary, will then address any possible areas of concern highlighted by the team.
