Oakland Intersection Analysis

Community Partner: Oakland Planning & Development Corporation

Team:

Elsbeth Hasley, Daniel August, Rihard Snisck, Mark Meshanko

Problem Statement:

Our goal was to compose intersection analyses of several selected intersections in Oakland. Analyses of intersections along Fifth and Forbes Avenue have already been conducted, and we were asked to expand upon their findings by analyzing intersections on Halket Street, Craft Street, and Sennott Street. We were looking for anything that may pose a hazard to pedestrians, or hinder the ability of motorists to identify pedestrians. We also analyzed the results and recommended changes or improvements to these intersections. This work will be used as part of the Hometown Streets project, a community project headed by the Oakland Transportation Management Association (OTMA) that is intended to improve main intersections in Oakland and increase the safety of pedestrians. Our focus while performing these analyses was on ways to increase the safety and mobility of pedestrians at these intersections.
