ENGR 0715 - Engineering Applications for Society

Spring 2007 Projects

Soil Erosion Analysis in Schenley Park

Community Partner: Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy

Team:

William Burroughs, Lucas Duvall, Charles Lutzow, Stephanie Meek

Problem Statement:

Our service learning task for ENGR 0715, Engineering Applications for Society, was to collect, record, and report data concerning erosion in the Panther Hollow Watershed in Schenley Park. To measure the rate of erosion, we installed erosion pins and soil collection containers in areas of concern on the hillside and along the edges of the creek bed. Data collected will be used to help decide what, if any, future action is necessary to help slow or prevent unwanted erosion.
