Accessibility Analysis of Hazelwood Post Office Entrance

Community Partner: Hazelwood Initiative

Team:

Tushar Karkhanis, Stephen Balmert, Danielle Yang, Chad Hume

Problem Statement:

The Hazelwood Initiative is an organization dedicated to the betterment of the Hazelwood community. With this mission in mind, its members are concerned that the Hazelwood Post Office is not handicap accessible. Although there is a ramp leading up to the main entrance, the exterior doors and the interior doors pose a challenge to physically handicapped and elderly members of the Hazelwood community. These doors need to be modified to be made more accessible. This project involves an analysis and report of the existing conditions, as well as a proposal for an automatic door system. Total financial costs and benefits to the community will also be addressed.
