International Research Experience
for Students (IRES) Program

The International Research Experience for Students (IRES) Program is a summer research program funded by the National Science Foundation. The program provides an excellent opportunity for undergraduate students to experience international travel while learning about nanotechnology.

Students spend two weeks at the University of Pittsburgh
conducting research at the Petersen Institute of
NanoScience and Engineering (PINSE) before heading to South Korea for 10 weeks to complete research at Seoul National University (Seoul), Sungkyunkwan University (Suwon), and Chonbuk National University (Jeonju).


In addition, students earn a monthly stipend, money for travel expenses, and low-cost health insurance.


Qualifications:

  • Sophomore or junior majoring in engineering or the sciences

  • GPA of 3.2 or higher

  • Two letters of recommendation (or completion of ENGR 0240:
    Nanotechnology and Nanoengineering)

  • Permanent resident or American citizen
