Prof. Allen C. Cheng is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE), Department of Computer Science (CS), Department of BioEngineering (BioE), Department of Neurological Surgery (Neurosurgery), Neural Engineering in the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine at University of Pittsburgh, where he established and direct the Advanced Computing Technology Laboratory (ACT Lab).
Prof. Cheng received his Ph.D. and M.S. from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor.
Prof. Cheng's research interests are at the interdisciplinary confluence of computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, neural engineering, biomedical engineering, and medicine. His current research focus on:
(1) Developing energy-efficient, high-performance, self-adaptive, reliable, secure, embedded and bio-implantable computing technology via algorithm-software-hardware co-design.
(2) Integrate this cutting-edge computing technology into real-life biomedical applications of highest impact.
The research efforts of his ACT Lab involve both developing fundamental science and implementing practical engineering solutions in both system hardware and software to pioneer assistive biomedical devices.
Prof. Cheng's research is currently being supported by the following federal and industrial sponsors.
