Pitt Engineering Career Access Program (PECAP)

The Pitt Engineering Career Access Program (PECAP) – a division of the School of Engineering Office of Diversity (EOD) - serves as a means through which the School of Engineering develops and implements all diversity initiatives for students from groups underrepresented in science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields.  PECAP includes a pre-college and a college component and provides a continuous pipeline for students to move from high school to college.  INVESTING NOW and CARE (Critical and Analytical Reasoning Enrichment) make up the PECAP Pre-College Component and the Pitt EXCEL Program is the College Component initiative.

See our: PECAP Program Structure

PECAP goals

  • Create a pipeline into the field of engineering and graduate education for students from groups traditionally underrepresented in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
  • Provide enrichment experiences that will encourage students to excel academically, professionally and socially.
  • Improve the analytical, critical thinking and problem solving skills of participants.
  • Provide community building activities that develop an appreciation for diversity.

PECAP Components

PECAP consists of Pre-College and College components. The College Component is called the Pitt EXCEL Program. The PECAP components sponsor summer and school year programs that focus on academic enhancement for students interested in careers in engineering, math, or science.

The Components and Programs are divided as follows:
