Undergraduate Substitute Courses

The following University of Pittsburgh courses may be substituted for required courses in the computer engineering curriculum.

  • Technical Elective for Engineering 0011 or 12
  • Chemistry 0110 and/or 0120 for Chemistry 0960 and/or 0970
  • Physics 0760 and 0770 (honors physics) for Physics 0104, 0105 and 0106

Special Projects

The COE 1898 Special Projects Course is a course number that is designed to be used for unique situations which may occur within a particular student's program. The use of this course to fulfill a requirement generally falls into three categories: a COE Required or Elective Course, a Technical Elective, or a COE Design Course.

In each case the student must submit a petition to the undergraduate administrator (Melissa Affolter) indicating the course to be fulfilled, the rationale for using this particular course number, and the signature of the faculty member who has agreed to monitor the completion of the course work and grading.

Computer engineering is the largest undergraduate program in the School of Engineering.
