Professional InterestsJack Richards joined the faulty of the University of Pittsburgh in 1985 as an adjunct associate professor teaching construction management courses. In 1994, he developed a construction management program that consists of an undergraduate area of concentration, a master of science degree, and various professional development seminars. He teaches the basic construction management course, three graduate courses, and two seminars in addition to directing this new program. Dr. Richards also maintains an independent consulting practice that provides construction management services to clients undertaking major projects. These have included industrial plants, highways and bridges, and commercial buildings. He also serves as a construction industry arbitrator and mediator on major cases, and conducts seminars in the areas of scheduling and dispute resolution. Dr. Richards was previously a career officer in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, retiring as the Pittsburgh District Engineer. During his Army career he managed a variety of construction projects throughout the United States and overseas. He was on the faculty of the U.s. Military Academy where he taught civil engineering, and he has also taught graduate courses at West Virginia University. he has conducted research in the areas of scheduling, contractual relationships, and dispute resolution. He is an active member of several professional societies, and a registered professional engineer. Selected Publications
