Undergraduate Program Objectives

Departmental Objectives; Measurement of Achievements

  1. Prepare students to assume positions of technical expertise in industries that require their specialized knowledge of chemical engineering.

Measure: The percent of alumni that graduated three or more years ago (responding to the alumni survey) in technical positions that use chemical engineering knowledge should meet or exceed 50 percent.

  2. Provide students with an education, grounded in the fundamentals, enabling them to succeed in graduate studies and research in chemical engineering.

Measure: The percent of alumni that graduated three or more years ago (responding to the alumni survey) that have completed or are in the midst of a graduate degree should meet or exceed seven percent.

  3. Encourage students to remain committed to lifelong learning in the discipline of chemical engineering throughout their careers.

Measure: The number of lifelong learning activities (specifically the sum—for the past 12 months—of the number of technical society memberships, the number of workshops or technical conferences attended, and the number of part-time graduate school classes enrolled in) associated with alumni that graduated five or more years ago (responding to the alumni survey) should average 0.5 activity/year.

  4. Provide students with a comprehensive education in engineering science that will prepare them to succeed in industry or other professional careers.

Measure: The percent of alumni that graduated three or more years ago (responding to the alumni survey) that have professional careers in areas other than chemical and petroleum engineering, specifically medicine, law, business, finance, non-profit organizations, government, education, engineering (in topics other than ChE and PetE), should meet or exceed 15 percent. (modified by Visiting Committee from 25 to 15 in June 2005)

  5. Prepare students to assume positions of technical leadership in industries that require their specialized knowledge of chemical engineering.

Measure: The percent of alumni that graduated three or more years ago (responding to the alumni survey) with at least two people reporting to them should meet or exceed 25 percent.
