Undergraduate Concentrations

Concentrations allow students within the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering to focus on particular areas of interest.

You must obtain a 2.0 QPA in the sequence to obtain the concentration.

Petroleum Engineering

Led by Prof. Badie Morsi

Students must take the following three courses:

  • PETE 1160: INTRODUCTION TO PETROLEUM RESERVOIR ENGINEERING
  • PETE 1202: PETROLEUM DRILLING AND PRODUCTION
  • PETE 1097: SPECIAL PROJECT

Note: PETE courses count as CHE Electives, Technical Electives or Professional Electives.

Polymers

Led by Profs. Jan Lindt and Toby Chapman

Students must take the following three courses:

  • CHE 1754: PRINCIPLES OF POLYMER ENGINEERING
  • CHEM 1600 and 1605 (Lab): SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF POLYMERS
  • CHE 1097: SPECIAL PROJECT (with polymer emphasis)

Biochemical Engineering

Led by Prof. Mohammad Ataai

Students pursuing this concentration must satisfy the following requirements:

  • BIOSC 1000: BIOCHEMISTRY
  • CHE 1531: FUNDAMENTALS OF BIOCHEMICAL ENGINEERING
  • CHE 1532: BIOSEPARATIONS or ChE 1533 CONTROLLED DRUG DELIVERY

Environmental Engineering

Led by Prof. Eric Beckman

Students must take the following four courses:

  • CEE 1503: INTRODUCTION TO ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING
  • CEE 1513: ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING PROCESSES
  • CHE 2610: ATMOSPHERIC POLLUTION CONTROL
  • CHE 2620: INDUSTRIAL WASTE MANAGEMENT or CHE 2640: POLLUTION PREVENTION
