EducationMBA, Duquesne University, 1967 Professional InterestsProfessor Murphy joined the department in 1997 as a Visiting Research Professor from the Pittsburgh Research Laboratory of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. Prior to this assignment, he served as the Research Director of the Laboratory. The focus of Professor Murphy's work has been on health and safety. The primary application has been directed toward mining, but other areas of interest include general industrial situations, particularly potentially hazardous environments. Other work under his direction addressed the development of new mining technology and mining environmental issues. His current interest areas include:
