Education

Sc. D Institut National Polytechnique de Lorraine 1982

Professional Interests

Professor Morsi jointed the department in 1982. He received a BS degree in Petroleum Engineering from Cairo University, Egypt in 1972. He also obtained a Diplome d'Etudes Approfondies (MS) in 1977, a Doctorat d'Ingenieur (PhD) in 1979 and a Doctorat d'Etat-es-Sciences Physiques (DSc) in 1982, all in Chemical Engineering from the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Industries Chimiques (ENSIC of the Institut National Polytechnique de Lorraine (INPL), France.

Professor Morsi's research activities involve different aspects of Chemical, Environmental, and Petroleum Engineering.

His recent work has focused on:

  • Design and scale-up of multiphase reactors, such as bubble columns, slurry bubble-columns, high-pressure/temperature stirred vessels, membrane reactors, and trickle-bed reactors.
  • Measurements of the hydrodynamic and mass transfer characteristics in various chemical processes, including Fischer-Tropsch/methanol synthesis, cyclohexane/toluene/benzoic acid oxidation processes, propylene polymerization, and soybean oil hydrogenation.
  • Modeling and optimization of these chemical processes.
  • Characterization of metallic membranes for high-temperature advanced processes.
  • Kinetic studies, modeling, and optimization of the regeneration step in a two-step advanced dry-sorbent process for simultaneous removal of Nox and Sox from flue gas.
  • Mobility control in CO2-flooding using polymers and other chemical additives.
