The Campaign for Engineering Legacy Funds

For Dave Wohlfarth, the opportunity to establish a Legacy Fund became a chance to not only support the Swanson School of Engineering, but it was also an opportunity to honor the memory of a brother. Dave established the Peter R. Wohlfarth Memorial Engineering Legacy Fund in March 2006 as both the first Legacy Fund to be named in someone else’s honor, and the first to be established for the benefit of the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering.

Dave received his B.S. in petroleum engineering in 1968, and he also earned a varsity letter as a member of the Pitt wrestling team.  After Pitt, he received a job offer from Public Service Electric and Gas Company (PSEG) in New Jersey and has remained throughout his career.  He has held various positions of increasing responsibility with the company throughout his career, focusing primary on the gas side of the business. He has led numerous transactions, resulting in PSEG becoming one of the nation’s largest gas merchant generation companies.

He has also been an active volunteer for Pitt through the New Jersey Pitt Club, where he has hosted numerous summer “Freshman Pittnics.” These gatherings help new Pitt students from New Jersey, and their families, get acquainted and better oriented about Pitt before starting their freshman year. He is also a member of the Pitt Varsity Letter Club and the Pitt Alumni Association. In recognition of his lifetime career accomplishments and service to Pitt, the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering recognized Dave in 2006 with the Distinguished Alumni Award.

Donors Empower Pitt

Facilities, professorships, scholarships, fellowships—all are crucial.
