The Campaign for Engineering Legacy Funds

Despite growing up in India and following a business career that has regularly taken him to Europe, Asia, and most points in between, Krish Prabhu (MSEE ’77, PhD ’80) has never lost sight of the impact his graduate engineering degrees at Pitt have had on his success. He came to Pitt to pursue electrical engineering after earning two degrees in India—a BS in physics from Bangalore University and an MS in physics from the Indian Institute of Technology.

He set his sights on a career in the telecommunications industry and worked his way up from technical positions at AT&T’s Bell Labs and Rockwell International into senior management roles with Alcatel.

After a brief run in the venture capital industry with Morgenthaler Ventures, Krish joined Chicago-based Tellabs in 2004 as president and CEO. The company is a global leader in the design and deployment of wireless and wireline network solutions, serving broadband carriers in almost 100 countries. His career success was recognized by the Swanson School of Engineering in 2001 when he received the Distinguished Alumni Award and he is also a member of the school’s Board of Visitors. His fund, which is unrestricted for school-wide needs, as determined by the dean, was the very first Engineering Legacy Fund to be established.
