The Campaign for Engineering Legacy Funds

Dave Marinaro earned a BSME in 1971 and accepted a job after graduation with Ford Motor Company in Detroit. He spent his entire career there, retiring in 2005.  He held a series of progressively responsible positions in engineering, product planning, and business planning, ending his career as the Director of Value Engineering. In this position, Dave led the design cost reduction initiative for the entire North American car and truck organizations, seeking design enhancements which would reduce production costs while improving quality.

Throughout his career, Dave also served as an active advocate for Pitt through Ford's engineering recruiting efforts, while also helping secure support for the Panther Racing Team in the annual Society of Automotive Engineers international car competition, Formula SAE. Pitt's team has been an active participant in this competition for more than 20 years and the team benefited immensely from Dave's efforts within Ford.

Dave has also served as an active member of the Visiting Committee for the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science. In recognition of his years of service to Pitt and the Swanson School of Engineering, a special citation was presented to Dave by Jerry Holder, U.S. Steel Dean of Engineering. This surprise presentation took place in Detroit during the 2005 Pitt Engineering IntraFirm reception for all our alumni at Ford.

Of note, the David T. and Pamela G. Marinaro Engineering Legacy Fund was the 50th Legacy Fund established and helped the Swanson School of Engineering surpass its initial goal of creating 50 funds by June 30, 2007.
