Professional Interests

Dr. Cui is a new faculty member of Bioengineering Department. She worked on developing biocompatible and electroactive coatings for neural microelectrode arrays at The University of Michigan. Immediately after graduation in 2002, she joined Unilever as a research scientist working on skin biomaterials and tribology. Her main research interest here at Pitt is interfacing biological systems via electroactive conductive polymer and bioactive polymers. The areas she would like to explore include:

  • Surface Modification and Characterization of Biosensors, BioMEMS and implantable medical devices. One example of which is implantable neural probes for stimulating neurons or recording neural activities from CNS.
  • Conducting Polymer Sensors, Actuators and Controlled Release System for Biomedical Application.
  • Polymer Based Biomaterial and Tissue Engineering.
