Pitt Part of Multi-University NSF ERC Project That Aims to Reduce Complications, Multiple Surgeries with Biodegradable Implantable Devices

Pitt joins North Carolina A&T and University of Cincinnati in $18.5 million NSF ERC project to create orthopedic, craniofacial, and cardiovascular devices that adapt to a patient's anatomy and dissolve when no longer needed.

Department of Bioengineering to Host Biomedical Engineering Society Annual Fall Meeting

The Department of Bioengineering at The University of Pittsburgh will host the 2009 Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) Annual Fall Meeting, led by Conference Chair Professor Harvey Borovetz and Program Chair Professor David Vorp.

This annual meeting of BMES, the lead society for the field, will be held October 7–10, at David Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh.

PhD Student Shows Fortitude in Investigating Cures for a Debilitating Disease

HaworthDonna Haworth, the newly named Carnegie Science Center Award for Excellence winner discusses how she became involved with the development of a tissue engineered urethral wrap (TEUW), which provides structural and functional support in instances of urethral dysfunction, such as in spinal cord injury or diabetes.

Graduate Researcher Receives NIH F31 Predoctoral Fellowship

BrownCongratulations to Bryan Brown, a graduate student researcher in the Department of Bioengineering. Bryan recently received a National Institutes of Health (NIH) F31 Predoctoral Fellowship for his work on "ECM Scaffolds and Macrophage Polarization Induced Tissue Remodeling".
