Home Employment FACULTY POSITION IN BIOENGINEERING (Focus Area: Smart Biomaterials)FACULTY POSITION IN BIOENGINEERING (Focus Area: Smart Biomaterials)The Department of Bioengineering at the University of Pittsburgh is pleased to announce a faculty position at the Assistant Professor (tenure-stream) or Associate Professor (tenure-stream or tenured) level. Our department, ranked nationally in the top 20, has strong research and educational programs, offering undergraduate (145 students) and graduate (MS, PhD, and MD/PhD; 175 students) degrees. The Department is located directly across the street from and interacts closely with the School of Medicine, rated nationally in the top 10 in NIH funding. In addition, the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine (http://www.mirm.pitt.edu) and Musculoskeletal Research Center (http://www.pitt.edu/~msrc) offer many research opportunities in the areas of tissue/organ engineering and medical device development. Recent additions to the Departmental research infrastructure include state-of-the-art laboratory space in the new Biomedical Science Tower-3, a joint facility housing faculty from the Schools of Medicine and Engineering. There are three NIH-funded pre-doctoral training programs in the Department: Cellular Approaches to Tissue Engineering/Regeneration, Biomechanics in Regenerative Medicine, and Cardiovascular Bioengineering. Further information about our faculty and educational and research programs can be found at http://www.engr.pitt.edu/bioengineering/main/. We are seeking an individual with expertise in smart biomaterials to complement and extend our existing strengths in materials synthesis and biomineralization for tissue engineering. Candidates with synthesis and biofunctional characterization expertise in one or more of the following areas are sought, with preference given to bone tissue engineering and/or non-viral gene delivery applications: (1) peptide-based self assembled polymeric materials, (2) bio-inspired materials, (3) hybrid structures of ceramics, polymers (natural and synthetic), and peptide-based systems, and (4) biodegradable metals. The chosen candidate will be expected to develop a successful extramurally funded research program and participate in both undergraduate and graduate classroom instruction. The position is to be filled as soon as possible. Candidates are encouraged to apply early because applications will be reviewed as they are received. Please note that application material must be submitted electronically: Faculty Candidate Application Form. Follow the instructions on the website to submit a complete dossier. The University of Pittsburgh is an Affirmative Action, Equal Opportunity Employer and strongly encourages applications from women and minorities. |
