School Renamed in Recognition of $41.3 Million in Campaign Support
On December 5, 2007, faculty, staff, and students gathered for a historic announcement which forever changed the School of Engineering. Chancellor Mark A. Nordenberg and Gerald Holder, U.S. Steel Dean of Engineering, were joined by alumnus and Pitt trustee, John A. Swanson (PhD '66), to announce the renaming of the school to the Swanson School of Engineering in recognition of the greatest individual philanthropic support in Pitt's history.

Benedum Hall Transformation Begins
Construction has begun on the comprehensive renovation and expansion of Benedum Hall. Once completed, this ambitious plan will give the Swanson School of Engineering world-class facilities for both teaching and research activities.

Swanson School Faculty Members Appointed Fellows at University of Oxford
This past fall, husband/wife duo Anna Balazs and Steven Levitan said goodbye to Pitt and headed off to the University of Oxford, where they both have visiting appointments during their sabbaticals.
