Directions to the Pittsburgh Campus

From the East

Cars traveling from the east via the PA Turnpike (I-76) should take Exit 6 to I-376 West. Take Exit 7A-Oakland onto Bates Street. Stay on Bates Street until it ends at Bouquet Street. Turn left onto Bouquet Street, then right at the first light onto Forbes Avenue.

From the West

Cars traveling from the west via the PA Turnpike (I-76) should take Exit 3 and follow I-79 South to I-279 South (the exit will be to the left). Follow I-279 South into the city, to the I-376 East-Monroeville Exit. Follow I-376 East to the Forbes Avenue/Oakland Exit. Forbes Avenue then leads into the Pitt campus.

From the North

Take I-79 South to I-279 South (the exit will be to the left). Follow I-279 South into the city, to the I-376 East-Monroeville Exit. Follow I-376 East to the Forbes Avenue/Oakland Exit. Forbes Avenue then leads into the Pitt campus.

From the South, including Pittsburgh International Airport

Follow I-79 North to the I-279 North Exit. Take I-279 North through the Fort Pitt Tunnels and across the bridge to the I-376 East-Monroeville Exit (first exit on the right). Follow I-376 East to the Forbes Avenue/Oakland Exit. Forbes Avenue leads into the Pitt campus.

Directions to the Pennsylvania Turnpike and Points East

Take Fifth Avenue toward Pittsburgh, staying in the left lane (closest to the bus lane). Turn left on Craft Avenue and get into the left lane. Cross over Forbes Avenue. At the next traffic light, turn left onto the Boulevard of the Allies and get into the right lane. At the second traffic light, turn right onto Bates Street. Follow the signs for I-376 East/Monroeville. Exit onto I-376 East and follow the signs for the Turnpike. Approximate distance and time to PA Turnpike: 8 miles/20 minutes.

Directions to the Regional Campuses (from the Pittsburgh Campus)

Bradford Campus

Follow I-579 North to I-279 North. Take I-279 North to I-79 North. Follow I-79 North to I-80 East. Exit at Shippenville and follow Route 66 North to Kane, then take Route 6 East to Route 219 North. Follow Route 219 North to Bradford and follow signs to the campus. Approximate distance and time to Bradford Campus: 170 miles/4 hours.

Greensburg Campus

Follow the directions for "The Pennsylvania Turnpike and Points East." Take the Pennsylvania Turnpike to Exit 7—Irwin. Follow Route 30 East for about nine miles. Do NOT exit into downtown Greensburg. Route 30 bypasses the city; stay on the Greensburg-Mt. Pleasant Exit. At the stop sign at the foot of the ramp, turn right and follow Mt. Pleasant Road for approximately 3/4 mile. The campus will be on your right. Approximate distance and time to the Greensburg campus: 35 miles/1 hour, depending on traffic.

Johnstown Campus

Follow the directions for "The Pennsylvania Turnpike and Points East." Take the Pennsylvania Turnpike to Exit 10-Somerset. From Somerset, take Route 219 North to the Elton Exit. Follow the signs to campus. OR take the Pennsylvania Turnpike to Exit 7-Irwin. Follow Route 30 East to Route 219 North toward Johnstown. Follow Route 219 North to the Elton Exit. Follow the signs to campus. Approximate distance and time to the Johnstown campus: 80 miles/1.5 hours.

Titusville Campus

Follow the directions for "The Pittsburgh International Airport and Points West." Take I-79 North to I-80 East to Route 8 (Exit 3 at Barkeyville). Follow Route 8 North into Titusville and follow the signs to campus. Approximate distance and time to the Titusville campus: 125 miles/2 hours.

Directions to Pittsburgh International Airport and Points West (from Pittsburgh Campus)

Take Fifth Avenue toward downtown Pittsburgh, staying in the second lane from the bus lane. Turn left on Craft Avenue. Continue down Craft Avenue for one block in the far right-hand lane; this lane must turn right onto Forbes Avenue. Turn right onto Forbes Avenue and continue straight until you reach a stop sign. Make a right-hand turn onto the Boulevard of the Allies. Continue on the Boulevard of the Allies in the right-hand lane. Follow the signs for I-376 West/Fort Pitt Bridge/Downtown. This lane will bring you to a merge point with I-376 West. Once on I-376 West, get into the second lane from the left, the lane for I-279 South/Airport. Follow this sign and remain in this lane. Continue on I-279 South, onto the Fort Pitt Bridge and through the Fort Pitt Tunnel. Follow I-279 South for several miles. The exit for I-79 North or South will be on your right. To get to the airport, proceed on I-279 South. Approximate distance and time to the airport: 15 miles/40 minutes.

Other Transit

Greyhound Lines bus station in Pittsburgh, located at 11th Street and Liberty Avenue, downtown, can be reached by local PAT buses or by taxi service. Call 1-800-231-2222 for fare and schedule information.

Port Authority Transit System (PAT) is a publicly owned mass transit system operated by Port Authority of Allegheny County. Fares vary within a five-zone system extending in all directions from downtown to the outer suburbs. Basic fare is $1.60. Exact change is required. Transfers can be purchase for a quarter, and can be used for one connection in any direction within three hours of the time of purchase; pay as you enter on inbound trips toward downtown Pittsburgh and pay as you exit on outbound trips before 7 p.m. After 7 p.m., pay as you enter on all trips. Local buses numbered 71 (A, C, or D), 67 (A or F), or 61 (A, B, or C) come into Oakland and may be boarded along Fifth Avenue, downtown. For bus routes and times call 412-442-2000.

Yellow Cab (412-665-8100) and People's Cab (412-681-3131) provide service to the Oakland area. Fares from downtown are approximately $7, and fares from the airport are approximately $30.
