EducationPh.D. (Computer Science and Engineering), University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, 2006 Courses
BiographyProf. Allen C. Cheng is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE), Department of Bioengineering (BioE), Department of Neurological Surgery (Neurosurgery), Department of Computer Science (CS), Neural Engineering in the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine at University of Pittsburgh, where he established and directing the Advanced Computing Technology Laboratory (ACT Lab). Prof. Cheng received his Ph.D. and M.S. in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. Prior to joining the University of Pittsburgh, he was a faculty lecturer in the College of Engineering at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. Prof. Cheng is a member of several international scholar and honor societies including Eta Kappa Nu, Phi ETA Sigma, and Golden Key. He is also a member of IEEE, ACM, and AAAS. Research InterestsProf. Cheng's research interests are at the interdisciplinary confluence of computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, neural engineering, biomedical engineering, and medicine. His current research focus on: (1) developing energy-efficient, high-performance, self-adaptive, reliable, secure, embedded and bio-implantable computing technology via algorithm-software-hardware co-design; (2) integrating this cutting-edge computing technology into real-life biomedical applications of highest impact. The research efforts of his ACT Lab involve both developing fundamental science and implementing practical engineering solutions in both system hardware and software to pioneer assistive biomedical devices. Prof. Cheng's research is generously supported by National Science Foundation (NSF), Microsoft Research, Xilinx Inc., and ARM Ltd.. Visit Prof. Cheng's personal web page for more information.
